An Experienced Transactional & Litigation Attorney

Austin Hiatt is an experienced transactional and litigation attorney working with Gard Law Firm, LLC since 2015. He practices criminal defense, civil litigation, corporate transactional law, and cannabis business licensing. His experience as a litigator informs his representation in transactional matters so that lawsuits can be avoided before they even begin.

Austin has represented clients in multi-million dollar transactions, criminal appeals, and in some of the most difficult cannabis compliance issues. Austin takes pride in providing efficient representation so that clients feel comfortable asking for legal advice even if when they are dealing with life’s smaller legal issues. Because Austin assists clients with a variety of legal matters, they get to know him personally rather than seeing a new face every time they have the need for an attorney.

Austin's Background

While attending the University of Colorado School of Law, Austin earned merit awards for scholastic achievement. He continued his focus on client-oriented practice at CU Law, choosing coursework focused on the economics of the legal system and small firm work. He made a point to work as a law clerk after class so that he could graduate with the broadest experience possible.

Austin is a Colorado native and Magna cum laude graduate from Colorado State University, earning bachelor’s degrees in Criminology with honors and Political Science. He conducted independent undergraduate research in criminology, which allowed him to see criminal issues from a sociological perspective. His research, Predictors of Fear in the Motoring Environment, used quantitative Colorado State Patrol survey data to examine demographic predictors of fear of victimization on Colorado roadways. That research reaffirmed Austin’s desire to practice law so that he could help the public navigate the unfamiliar and sometimes scary legal system.
